Developed by Volunteering Kingston, the strategy is a collaborative effort with volunteers, voluntary organisations and Kingston Council.
With more than 450 charities and 15,000 volunteers, the strategy aims to increase the number of volunteers to help:
- Reflect Kingston’s diversity in volunteering opportunities
- lifelong volunteering from an early age
- Remove barriers to engagement and widen access
- Celebrate and raise awareness of the impact of volunteers
- Foster innovation and shared leadership across the sector
Kingston Council leader Andreas Kirsch said: “Across the Royal borough of Kingston we work best when we come together, not just to respond to extreme circumstances but also to create fairness and equity, celebrate diversity, build inclusion and share opportunity.”
Kingston has more than 100 different volunteering opportunities, from sports to stewarding, families to finance, there’s something everyone can get involved with that will help others.
For the volunteers in Kingston, it may only be a couple of hours, but for the people that need it, it’s time where they could help their grief, make sure they eat, receive for a disability, or so much more.
The initiative looks to bring together local charities, community groups, faith organisations, and public services by creating accessible, inclusive and meaningful opportunities for volunteers.
Kingston’s commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive volunteering culture across the borough has been marked with the official launch of the 2025-2029 Kingston Volunteering Strategy.
The launch took place on Thursday June 5 at Tolworth Recreation Centre.
